My Faith Has Found a Resting Place

My Faith Has Found a Resting Place is a hymn written by Eliza Edmunds Hewitt who is also known for writing well known hymns such as: When We All Get To Heaven and Sunshine In My Soul. Hewitt grew up in Philadelphia and became a school teacher for a number of years and also served on the staff at Northern Home for Friendless Children. Her life however, took a turn whenever she was trying to correct an incorrigible student one day and he struck her in the back with a heavy object giving her a serious injury and placing her in a heavy cast for six months. Though life for her had become limited she never lost her faith or sight of the bigger picture because she knew she had a resting place in Christ. As Christians we tend to think we will always be protected from the struggles of life because we go to church, read our Bible

What is your focus?

Have you ever looked at a picture that was  out of focus ? Maybe it was a picture that you took years earlier. When you looked at the picture after significant time had passed, did you think -  I vaguely recall this image, but it's difficult to make out what it actually portrays.  Maybe your life has become similar to that old picture - out of focus and barely recognizable as to the image that it should portray. A person, activity or idea around which all other facets of your life revolve? What is your focus?  While a seemingly straight-forward question, the answer might be illusive. After all, doesn't the answer change from year-to-year, day-to-day, even minute-to-mi

Thoughts on A Family Well Ordered by Cotton Mather

The core of all society is the family. If our families are not in order, we have no hope of anything else being in order. In the family the parents have a great responsibility, but the children also have a responsibility to respect the parents. It is the parent’s responsibility to feed their children, physically and spiritually. No parent would deprive their children of physical food when it is within their power to provide it. Why would they dare deprive them of the spiritual food of the word and teachings of God when it is so readily available to them? It is the parent’s responsibility to bring their children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Parents are there to take care of their children’s physical bodies but they must remember that their child has a soul that will live on in eternity and they must strive to bring their children unto an understanding of and a relationship with the Lord. This must be a parent’s highest goal. The best way to teach your kids this is to
